After a long absence I am back to write in my blog again. I am so grateful to the Lord for His help in my life. The Corona-virus naturally has also my attention. I will have to be very careful in the coming weeks as I am one of those older people with heartfailure problems. I am relaxed though, as I know that one day I will be called to come home by the Lord. Until now I have with good medication no problems and still functions as if I was 60…

Lessons that I learned in this trip in Iceland.

From 5-27 of February I was in Iceland. With the last weekend again staying with the Bishop and spending once again Saturday evening with the Neocatechuminat fellowship. It is a lively group of RC church members. I was again amazed how young children start to share their prayers and how they participate in the service.

One of the things that I learned in this visit is to look more at what God does in our lives, from the perspective of process. Take for instance Rev.3:20. Jesus says “I stand at the door of your heart and knok, if anyone opens I will come in and have a meal together”. I remember this fact as something that God told me 65 years ago… I realize now that He continues to say this, that He is always coming to us in a spiritual way. He is there in my heart, I know that, and He never left me. Yet like in the communion service, ( the Eucharist) He comes to us, time and again.
I have this process aspect used as an evangelistic approach. So many Icelanders have had believing forefathers/mother’s. This heritage is important for them. There is also a lot of deep loneliness, resulting also in quite a few suïcides. By encouraging to ask Jesus to come in and fill this emptiness as a process, this helps people not to look for feelings, but that God comes where we are (as a continual process), God does what He promissed that He would do. Many don’t feel anything when they ask Him to come In their heart. I tell them then „you don’t have an existential problem, but a feeling problem. God is there as you asked Him to come„. In this visit I have seen several people who responded so good to the Lord, by accepting the fact that God is there, through Jesus but without any feelings. This is again an opportunity to state that we act in faith of what God says in his Word and NOT since it feels good. Paradoxically I observe  that then feelings of gratefulness often follows.
