A Surprising Seminar

I attended this weekend (20-22 September 2019) a ‘Holy Spirit’ seminar.

One Indian lady, Elsi and one older gentleman, Justin were leading this. The second Indian lady had been in Germany already for nearly 50 years. Elsi started to talk about spiritual gifts, described in 1 Corinths 14. She explained about prayer-language first and gave a short demonstration. She encouraged those who wanted to receive this gift to start saying Hallelujah. “Say it as loud as you can. Say something similar, like Praise Jesus, I love you, Lord.” The whole hall began in one cacophony of different sounds to express their love for God.
I prayed on one wavelength and renumerated on another about a similar experience in the seventies. We had returned home to the Netherlands from 12 years in Thailand and were looking where to fit in. The imposing figures of J.E. van de Brink, Jacques Roose, Karel Hoekendijk, and his wife had captured my attention. I was sure; they would have enjoyed this spectacle. As the teaching went on for three days, it looked like I saw an incarnation of Mrs. Hoekendijk in the tiny Indian lady. She also knew the practical limits of the religious world she represented and insisted on following these rules. We were not allowed to touch anyone, only the head, as that was O.K. She also taught on how to receive a word of knowledge as well as a prophetic utterance. She comes already more than 10 years to Austria and has quite a following. It gave me a good example what one can and can’t do in this culture!

It was very moving to experience how we were having a closing session in which participant received a personal blessing.

Before they left, I blessed her hands. Power was flowing from my hands into hers, and she responded with a grateful smile.

Well, it wasn’t in the Netherlands. I was in Hartberg Kloster, a Roman Catholic Center for Renewal. The two ladies are nuns and the gentleman is an Indian priest/professor in a seminary in New Delhi. About him, I will share another time.
